Results! The Ladies Of Polaroid
Presented by

Contest dates - April 1st - May 31st 2011
Results: Judges have judged, results have been tallied and the winners are below!
Before we start, let me first congratulate all the photographers, models and support crew that you all mobilized for the Ladies of Polaroid photo contest. We were blown away by the creativity, attention to detail and the obvious fun you all had with this. From a number of comments that were added with your entries, the 1:1 category proved more challenging than many of you thought it would be.
Challenging or not, we’ve had so much fun here at LandCameras and are excited for next year’s contest. We’re planning on making this an annual event with a new mystery category each year.

The Judges
Laurie Henzel is the creative director and co-owner of BUST Magazine. She lives in Manhattan with her husband (also a photographer), 2 daughters, 1 dog, 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs. She is obsessed with all things vintage and loves Polaroid images.
Seattle musician Damien Jurado and his wife/manager/photographer Sarah Jurado join in as judges; Damien, the avid thrifter in the family, has an eye for all things 60′s & 70′s, while Sarah brings her talents as a taker of photos, and owner of multiple landcameras.
Penny Felts, Co-Founder of LandCameras.com and prodigious instant photographer. In her own words: I am a lover of blur, soft colors, dreams and poetry on film. My mother taught me to love cameras, film and drawers full of old memories. Polaroid allows me to shoot the way that I prefer to see.
Tali Edut The incredibly patient and loving wife of yours truly, Cory Verellen. Tali and her sister Ophira, founders of Astrostyle.com, also write astrology columns for numerous publications world-wide. With an eye for retro style, Tali is a perfect fit to round out the judging panel for the Ladies of Polaroid photo contest.

The Winners
Reproduction Category
1st Place
Photographer: Juliane Ebert
Model: Cat Krämer
Location: Berlin Neukölln, Germany
In the words of the photographer: This was much much harder than I thought. Next time I need a windless location, more sun, one or two assistants, a proper camera and less young boys asking silly questions. Ah- and knee pads. Oh well, I learned a lot and my model Cat has a new Facebook profile pic. And after all the journey is the reward.
2nd Place
Photographer: J. Astra Brinkmann
Model: Brisa Elizabeth Wendt
Location: San Francisco, USA
In the words of the photographer: Meeting Brisa at Rasputin Records two years ago was a fortunate and magical thing. She is one of the reasons that I have taken to photography; her support has given me the courage and confidence to continue pushing new boundaries with my work. This particular collaboration took place in the comfort of her Lower Haight home, after she assured me that she was a “whiz” with hair. I wish I could claim that this photo was taken with a Polaroid, but the lighting conditions I had available made me use my Canon 40D. Normally, however, I am a film and Polaroid die-hard: long live analog!

Model: Katie Sniadach

Location: Chicago, USA
Styling: Liz Klafeta
Hair & Makeup: Martina Sykes
Retouching: Sarah Crump
In the words of the photographer:
When I heard about the Polaroid/Bust Magazine Ladies of Polaroid Contest, it was screaming my name, and I could not resist!!! Polaroid has always been a huge part of my own photography, starting with the magical SX-70 camera I grew up with! I have a collection of Vintage (and new!) Polaroid Cameras and even did a little research to make sure the camera we photographed was appropriate for the time period of the set. Combine all this with my love for Bust Magazine and it was a done deal! Super talented crew assembled and we were shooting in no time!:)
Vintage Set + Beautiful Girl + Polaroid Camera x Lisa Predko Photography = True Love ♥
2nd Place
Photographer: Dauss Miller
Model: Paulina
Location: Carmel, IN
Photo-stylist, Makeup artist, and location scout: Kelly Oswalt
Clothes: Red Rose Vintage
In the words of the photographer: The backdrop/location is probably the most interesting part of the photo. The house is a mid century home built and designed by a female architect named Avriel Schull. I found more about this architect who was way ahead of her time when she built these homes back in the late 50′s, 60′s, and 70′s.
Honorable Mention
Photographer: Vienna Di Ruscio
Model: Vanessa Mannell
Location: Regina, Saskatchewan
In the words of the photographer:
My brothers girlfriend, Vanessa, just bought this dress from Retrovise, a local pin-up clothing store. She looked so cute we ran to the studio to do some impromptu pin-ups. The vintage camera we found as a prop worked well for the photos. They make me think of how everyone used to dress up and look their best always, even if they were on safari photographing tigers and elephants!
Honorable Mention
Photographer: Jena Ardell
Model: Barb
Location: Los Angeles, USA
In the words of the photographer:
This is a self-portrait of a character I created named “Barb” holding a Polaroid Macro 5 SLR-1200 Camera System.
Fictional backstory: Polaroid approached me to shoot a photo for their manual in the 1980s while I was working as a Dental Hygienist in Reseda, but I guess they never used the photo. The Polaroid Macro SLR 1200 was just being introduced to dental and medical professionals and I was the first person in the office to test it!! I shot many molars with that camera. I guess since I don’t work there anymore, I can tell you this: I took the camera home one weekend so my boyfriend could shoot a few headshots of me for a Jazzercise video audition. I never got the part, but I still like Jazzercise. It’s a good camera.
